What inspired me this week?

I turned 23 this week! And although I’m extremely sad that Taylor Swift’s song ’22’ no longer relates to me, I am so grateful for all the family and friends who took the time to send me some of the most beautiful cards I’ve ever been given. This year I asked not to be bought gifts as I felt that materialistic things could not improve my spiritual journey, but as usual, my mum proved me wrong. She bought me a beautiful Himalayan Salt Lamp and a matching Himalayan Salt Candle Holder
Jadesamermaid - Himalayan Salt Lampwhich are known for their amazing benefits such as neutralising electromagnetic radiation, improving energy levels and reducing stress and depression. It’s still early days, but I can definitely see an improvement in my mood after having these in the room for only a couple of days.

You know when you watch a movie and you absolutely love it and it changes your way of thinking and makes you question your life? Well ‘Peace, Love & Misunderstanding’ is that movie for me. Honestly, it was so inspiring, and with amazing actors like Jane Fonda and Jeffrey Dean Morgan, this has got to be one of my favourite movies of all time.

For most of  this year I’ve been wearing quite dull colours, mostly blacks and greys, and not caring if i  wore the same hoodie and jeans all week. But ever since I’ve been focusing on my health and spirituality more, my dress sense has followed in the same positive direction and I’ve started wearing bright colours and vibrant patterns. And honestly, I’m loving it! I feel more myself and I love all the bargains I’ve been finding. I have some lovely new dresses, skirts and tops so I will have to take some pictures of them soon!

I recently discovered the book ‘The Four Agreements’ which is a book focusing on personal growth, which I am extremely excited to read. I was recommended this book by someone awesome who is on a similar spiritual journey as me, and since I am always interested in any books relating to spirituality, I am definitely going to give this one a read. I’ve heard loads of positive feedback from everyone who’s read it and just looking at it makes me eager to get started!

The Vegan Society have released the amazing ‘Veganalyser’! You simply enter your age and the Veganalyser calculates how many animals you could save by going vegan! And if you’re already vegan (yay!) it can tell you how many lives you’ve already saved. I was a meat eater my whole life until I accidentally stumbled upon the Netflix documentary ‘Forks over knives’ and my whole world changed. Jadesamermaid - Starla-Michelle-HalfmannEven though I didn’t manage to become completely vegan at the time, I did become vegetarian and reduced my dairy intake. And from the Veganalyser, that shows that after just 3 years I have saved at least 112 animals! That just seems completely crazy to me that just one person becoming aware of the effects of eating meat has managed to save 112 lives. And to end this post on an even happier note, here’s a piece of artwork by Starla Halfmann of the sweetest cow!
